What is a DPF and what does it do?

A diesel particulate filter, or DPF for short, removes the harmful particles of soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine to prevent them from being released into the atmosphere.

There are several DPF design variants and some are so efficient they are almost 100% effective, but problems occur when there is a blockage, and this can present itself in a number of ways:

• The engine power appears to be reduced
• Fuel consumption is increasing
• The stop-start function does not work properly
• There is an excess of exhaust smoke
• There is a distinctive smell of diesel

Our team have undergone the latest training and have the support of the UK-wide DPF Doctor network, which means that we run diagnostics on vehicles that come to us with suspected DPF issues, to find the real cause of the problem. This means we solve it first time, rather than just cleaning the DPF and letting the problem reoccur.
